In 2017, Konga Microfinance’s outreach drive involved partnership with the City of Windhoek’s economic development division to regularly share information on our range of microfinance products and services at open markets and centres within the capital which serve as focal points for small business activity as well as natural gathering spots for the local community.
Konga Microfinance and Project HOPE Namibia, a USAID-funded organisation, sealed a formal partnership, in March 2011 to collaborate in furthering rural economic development through the provision of long-term avenues of access to the microfinance Konga Microfinance extends to Project HOPE group members eager to graduate from informal economic activities to productive micro and small enterprises.
In September 2011, Konga Microfinance partnered with the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN) to provide micro-enterprise loans to eligible SDFN members, promoting responsible lending and borrowing. This collaboration aimed to boost small business growth and improve members’ livelihoods.
The SDFN, founded in 1998, is a network of housing savings groups focused on enhancing living conditions for low-income individuals, with a strong emphasis on women’s socio-economic empowerment. It comprises 620 saving groups with 19,392 active members (65% women) in informal settlements. Their primary goals include securing affordable land for housing and access to credit, which inspired the partnership with Konga Microfinance.
In June 2013, Konga Microfinance partnered with CLUSA International to support CLUSA Namibia, a USAID-funded program. This collaboration provided farmers with financial access to acquire agricultural equipment and inputs, enabling a shift from subsistence to commercial farming, fostering sustainable income, and creating employment opportunities.
CLUSA Namibia led the Namibia Conservation Agriculture Programme (2013–2015), introducing conservation farming techniques to smallholder farmers in northern Namibia. This initiative aimed to mitigate drought and flood impacts, enhance food security, and support cash crop income generation.
In 2011, Konga Microfinance was invited to be an anchor tenant in the Ondangwa Town Council’s SME Centre, a one-stop shop providing access to information and training to both emergent and established small business owners from Ondangwa and its densely populated surrounding area. It was the first location for Konga Microfinance’s growing network of regional offices. We still retain strong partnership links with the OTC.
Konga Microfinance partners with DFIs to provide underserved communities with capital, supporting MSMEs, renewable energy, job creation, and rural food security.
